THE MUNICH CONFERENCE AND APPEASEMENT
1938
Hitler thrives to annex Sudetenland. On September 29th, Germany, Italy, France and Great Britain signs the Munich Pact, which gave Germany the land it wanted. The Prime Minister of Great Britain, Neville Chamberlain, justified the signing of the pact as a way to "appease" Hitler and prevent war altogether--which it did NOT. |
THE RISE OF HITLER
Germany's economy is in ruins after the Treaty of Versailles pegs them with drastic war reparations. Adolf Hitler claimed that he had a plan to recreate Germany and make it one of the leading powers again.

AMERICA ENTERS THE WAR: PEARL HARBOR
December 7th, 1941: Japan bombs ships Hawaii, Pearl Harbor Results in FDR declaration of war against Japan (and as an effect Germany and Italy declare war on the United States) Japanese Internment (Executive Order 9066): results as a fear of Japanese-American's as "traitors." Many Japanese-American's were sent (by law) to internment camps. |
THE BIG THREE
Franklin D. Roosevelt, Joseph Stalin, and Winston Churchill
Tehran Conference One of the first major meetings between the Big Three. During this meeting, they planned the 1944 assault on France and agreed to divide Germany into zones of occupation post war. They also agreed on opening a "second front." It was said that the Soviet Union should declare war on Japan after the end of the war in Europe. Yalta Conference The Yalta Conference established world organization. The Soviet Union pledged to allow democratic procedures in Eastern Europe, to which they would not follow through. Bretton Woods Conference This was the meeting of Western allies to establish a postwar international economic order to avoid crises like the one of WWII. This conference led to the creation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. This was designed to regulate currency levels and provide aid to underdeveloped countries. |
